Effect of antibacterial activity of calcium hydroxide

The antibacterial activity of calcium hydroxide is influenced by the presence or absence of smear layer on the effect of allicin and calcium hydroxide against Enterococcus faecalis, and provides an experimental basis for selecting appropriate root canal disinfection drugs for existing clinical conditions. In the smear layer group, allicin inhibited Enterococcus faecalis better than calcium hydroxide (p<0.05).

2. On the 7th day of the experiment, the presence or absence of the smear layer, the allicin group can kill Enterococcus faecalis in the root canal. After removing the smear layer, calcium hydroxide can kill Enterococcus faecalis in the root canal, and the bactericidal effect is not significantly different from that of allicin (p<0.05). In the smear layer group, the calcium hydroxide group has the presence of Enterococcus faecalis, and allicin inhibits Enterococcus faecalis was superior to calcium hydroxide (p<0.05).

The results showed that the antibacterial activity of calcium hydroxide affected the third day of the preservation of the smear layer group, and allicin and calcium hydroxide failed to completely kill Enterococcus faecalis in the infected root canal. On the 7th day of the drug-sealing, allicin can effectively kill Enterococcus faecalis in the infected root canal.
